Educational problems in the humanist world
It is well known fact, that humanist professions are very profitable nowadays. Since school a lot of young people suppose this speciality to be very absorbing. With such an viewpoint they are brought up in their families, go to high school, to a university and finally they begin rearing their own children that way. Cul-de-sac.
Why is it so? What do make people think that manual operations have lost their importance?
There are several reasons.
firstly modern machinery reached such a high degree of progress that the majority of people is capable of using it without having specialized technological education. Consequently there is no necessity for further diffusion of technical skill. Humanits use starts prevailing in all spheres of life.
second it is an well known fact that we are in the consumer society. People in it don’t want to work with their hands. They like to describe the world around and consume things, but not to produce something by themselves. Of course this phenomenon does not influence positively on diffusion of engineering education. People are simply not concerned with it.
Thirdly the resource base has reached such a level of devastation that we frequently have no place for practice after studying the theory.
Finally a very important thing is the policy of the government. What professions does it consider as needed nowadays? We can easily learn it by analyzing our mass-media. The internet, the television, the radio, the press – what images do they popularize today? It is easy to prove that they are full of non-technical images. Mass-media display us easy life in which there is no place for hard-work, but there are a lot of talks, beautiful scenes and fantasies.
What do we have as a in the issue?
Lack of experienced workers in the technological sphere. There are a lot of philosophers, lawyers, artists, singers, politicians, professors but a few people, able to operate for example a jointer planer. This will lead to a perilous situation when we will be needing very simple things which are very important for our comfortable way of living.
Besides that our education system is totally ruined. There is no technical literature of high quality – it is either sold or lost. There is no experienced teachers able to train adequate personnel working in technical spheres.
Such is the picture. Sad, isn’t it?
Then, there is an adequate question: what should our state do in order to improve the state? it is clear that there are several actions to be taken. First of all our country should change its attitude towards technical professions and specialities and theirs perspectives. state should apply efforts in order to popularize technological professions in mass-media.
And of course, the best way to preserve engineering professions is to assign enough means both for the payment for the people who work in this sphere and to the creating an adequate resource base.
